Terms of Service

These terms describe use of Family History Archive (FHA), including its optional Google Drive backup integration. FHA is a private family research project maintained by Ben McCoy. Contact bendoesads@gmail.com with questions.

Authorized use

Use the private archive only if you have been granted access. Protect your account and do not bypass access controls, share another person's credentials or disclose private family information without appropriate permission.

Contributions and accuracy

Only contribute material you are entitled to use and share. Respect the privacy of living people and the rights of source creators. Contributors retain their rights in their material and permit its storage, display to authorized users and inclusion in archive backups for the operation of FHA.

Genealogy records may contain errors, uncertain conclusions or conflicting sources. Review supporting evidence before relying on them and report corrections to the maintainer.

Google Drive backups

The designated backup administrator may connect their Google account and request a backup. The connection is governed by the Privacy Policy and Google's applicable terms. The account owner remains responsible for Drive storage capacity, file sharing and retention.

A successful verification means the downloaded file matched the export and passed the application's integrity checks. It is not a guarantee of a successful future restoration or a complete backup of every component of the application. JSON backups exclude media files, access settings and application secrets. Keep additional copies of important material.

Saving a backup does not restore or modify archive records. Automatic backup scheduling is not currently enabled.

Availability and responsibility

FHA is provided as a personal family project without a promise of uninterrupted availability, error-free records or permanent storage. Features may change or be suspended for maintenance or security. To the extent allowed by applicable law, the service is provided as available without warranties. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or responsibilities that cannot legally be excluded.

Access and updates

The maintainer may restrict access to protect the archive or address misuse. You may stop using FHA at any time and revoke its Google access through your Google Account. Existing Drive backups remain under the account owner's control.

These terms may be updated as the service changes. Material changes will be communicated to authorized users. The date above identifies the latest revision.
